Scripture: Gensis 22:1-19
Sermon Title: Sacrifice of The Son (by Pastor Joe Lee, youth pastor)

Sermon Outline


1. Genesis 22 is about Abraham’s great faith. But more importantly it is about God’s faithfulness in keeping His promises.

2. This is a story about a Father and Son, who walk up a hill together, with the Father having every intention of sacrificing His Son, and His Son being obedient to the point of carrying the wood that will be used for His sacrifice.
-a. In this version, Isaac, the son is spared and God provides.
-b. In the version 1000 years later (on the same mountain), Jesus, the Son, is not spared and God still provides.

3. As modeled in Lev. 16, sacrifice was God’s method of restoring relationship with His people. Jesus was the fulfillment and ultimate sacrifice that restores relationship with God for all who would have faith in Him.

4. As that mountain is called “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided,” God provided in more ways than one for Abraham and Isaac, and for all of us.

5. We should feel all the pain and anguish that is involved in sacrificing your own, beloved son, so that we would not minimize what was accomplished and done on our behalf on the Cross.

- Do not treat others according to their social status.
